Anthony Byrne was sentenced to two years, with the final six months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 7 June 2023. He pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and producing an article in a communal area after attacking a 16-year-old boy in Ringsend on 4 January 2022.

Judge Orla Crowe said the attack was unwarranted and had a lasting impact on the child. She suspended part of the sentence because of Byrne’s rehabilitation efforts.

The boy suffered crush injuries to his left middle finger and swelling to his lip and face, and later needed surgery. Byrne brought €2,000 to court as a token of remorse, which the judge ordered paid to the boy’s mother.
