Andrzej Benko lost his appeal against a 15-year sentence for attempting to murder his wife, in the Court of Appeal, reported on 13 January 2022. The attack took place at the couple’s home on Ladyswell Road, Mulhuddart, Dublin, on 5 July 2010.
Benko had been convicted at the Central Criminal Court in April 2014 after pleading not guilty. His appeal argued that his cooperation with gardaí after arrest justified a shorter sentence.
The Court of Appeal rejected the challenge, finding no error in the sentencing judge’s decision to impose 15 years. The judgment said the attack left Joanna Benko with lifelong serious injuries and unable to live independently or care for her child.
