Andrew Agwu pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two burglary counts involving Foot Locker shops on O’Connell Street and Mary Street. The burglaries took place during the Dublin riots on November 23, 2023. The proceedings were reported on March 5, 2026.
His lawyers said he did not take part in any of the violent acts of the riots but got caught up in the looting that followed. Garda Aoife Kavanagh told the court that CCTV showed him taking three boxes of shoes from the first shop and two from the second. She estimated the value of the five pairs at €750; none was recovered.
His barrister, Rob Crowley, said none of the shoes taken from the first shop fitted Agwu, and that he then went to the second shop. Agwu has no previous convictions. Mr Crowley said he was remorseful and willing to raise €2,500 as a token of remorse.
Judge Elma Sheahan adjourned finalisation of sentence to May 21 and remanded Agwu on continuing bail until then. No sentence had been finalised in the report.
