Andresj Krauze was found guilty of murdering Juris Buls at the Central Criminal Court after a three-week trial. The proceedings were reported on 30 March 2017.
Krauze had pleaded not guilty to murder, concerning Buls’s death in Galway at an unknown time on 7 or 8 July 2011. The jury reached its unanimous verdict in just under five hours.
The report said the prosecution case was that Krauze killed Buls after he refused to withdraw an assault complaint. Krauze told gardaí that he had paid Buls €600 to withdraw it, and that a fight followed when he discovered the complaint had not been withdrawn; he said he grabbed Buls by the neck and squeezed.
Justice Margaret Heneghan said she would hand down the mandatory life sentence on 26 April, when Buls’s sister was due to make a statement.
