The trial of two boys accused of murdering Ana Kriegel heard pathologist evidence in court on 9 May 2019. Both boys pleaded not guilty to murder, while Boy A also denied aggravated sexual assault.
Former State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy told the jury that Ana suffered more than 55 injury sites, including fractures, bruising and lacerations. She said the injuries were concentrated on Ana’s head and neck, with signs consistent with blunt force trauma or compression of the neck.
Professor Cassidy also gave evidence of an attempted vaginal penetration and said there were no drugs or alcohol in Ana’s body. She described some injuries as consistent with defensive wounds, while accepting during cross-examination that other injuries could also have resulted from consensual sexual contact. The trial continued.
