Amy McAuley keeps suspended theft sentence after appeal
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Amy McAuley’s three concurrent two-year theft sentences, suspended for ten years, were upheld by the Court of Appeal on 9 June 2016. The thefts involved €132,355.20 taken from Nordzucker Ireland Ltd in Sandyford, Dublin.
The Director of Public Prosecutions had sought a review, arguing that the sentences were unduly lenient because of the amount stolen. The court dismissed that application, finding no manifest error of principle.
However, the court changed the repayment condition. McAuley must pay 30% of the required restitution within five years, another 30% within seven and a half years, and any balance by the end of the ten-year suspension.
