This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Alex Almajanu was given a two-year-and-three-month sentence, fully suspended for three years, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Orla Crowe also disqualified him from driving for five years and required him to engage with the Probation Service for 12 months.

He pleaded guilty to endangerment, two breaches of Covid regulations, dangerous driving, not holding a driving licence and reckless criminal damage. The offences arose on 25 April 2020, when he was initially stopped at a Covid checkpoint in Clare and later drove away from a checkpoint in Birr.

The proceedings were reported on 7 November 2023. Defence counsel Keith Spencer BL said Almajanu had been taking drugs, including prescription medication, at the time, but was now drug free; he also said Almajanu accepted that his driving was deplorable and created a substantial risk to others.
