Aisha Ahmed remanded over Italian cocaine trafficking sentence

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Aisha Ahmed was remanded in custody by the High Court on 25 October 2014 over a 20-year Italian sentence for cocaine trafficking. The court was told the alleged trafficking involved importing, selling, distributing and possessing cocaine in Italy between 1999 and 2000.

Ahmed, who was wanted for extradition, denied being Aisha Ahmed and said she had never been to Italy. Fingerprints supplied by Interpol and taken after her arrest were said to match, and the judge was satisfied that she was the person named in the warrant.

Her extradition proceedings were adjourned, with the report stating that she remained in custody pending the next stage of the case.
