Detective Garda Aidan Bracken’s contempt of court proceedings against the Garda Commissioner were struck out at the High Court on 29 November 2021 after the wider action was settled.
Under the settlement, the court could order that Bracken’s injuries be classified as sustained while carrying out his duties, beginning in July 2015. Costs orders were also made in his favour.
The contempt motion concerned an earlier order requiring a fair assessment of injuries Bracken said he suffered in the line of duty. His lawyers said the assessment had not been completed; the Commissioner’s lawyers said progress was being made.
