Abdul Rahman Mohammed was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Orla Crowe after a jury convicted him of sexual assault, false imprisonment and demanding money with menaces. The proceedings were reported on 13 May 2024.

Mohammed, 35, of Mountjoy Square, Dublin, denied the charges. He was convicted by a jury in February 2024. The offences involved a 15-year-old girl at Penney's in Dundrum Shopping Centre on 4 December 2022.

Detective Garda Rachel Kiernan told the court that the girl had put a make-up brush and a peel-off face mask in her jacket. She was stopped as she left and brought to a room where she was left alone with Mohammed. He told her to tell her friends to leave, accused her of hiding more goods, made her strip to her underwear and put his hands on her.

The report said they later met in the shopping centre car park. The girl thought she had to pay €2.50 for the items, but Mohammed wanted €250. Mohammed claimed the girl and her friends had been following him around.

The report said CCTV footage in the room had been interfered with and was blurry. In a victim impact statement, the child said she could not close her eyes without seeing Mohammed's face and that the attack left her afraid and depressed.
