Aaron Connolly granted bail ahead of retrial on murder charge

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Aaron Connolly pleaded not guilty to murdering Cameron Reilly and was convicted by a unanimous jury in December 2022. The Court of Appeal later quashed the conviction, finding that the trial judge’s jury charge lacked balance and could have been perceived as advocacy for the prosecution. The court directed a retrial on the Director of Public Prosecutions’ application.

At the Central Criminal Court, Judge Paul McDermott granted Connolly bail on strict conditions, including that he live with his parents and not leave the house unaccompanied. The judge adjourned the matter to June 24, when Connolly was to be given a date for his second trial.
