A youth had manslaughter sentencing adjourned at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 21 January 2019. The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of manslaughter but acquitted of murder after the fatal stabbing of Dovydas Jenkas. Sentencing was delayed while he recovered from brain surgery for ongoing epilepsy. The court said sentencing would be considered in October.
The jury had convicted the defendant in 2017 after Mr Jenkas died from a single stab wound in Claremorris. The court heard the defendant had undergone an anterior temporal lobectomy after medical treatment had not controlled his seizures.
