A 66-year-old man was convicted of rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court, as reported on 9 May 2017. The offences occurred in Donegal and Dublin between 1992 and 1994, when the victim was a child.

The court heard that the woman described lasting anxiety, panic attacks and depression after the abuse. The case was adjourned to 19 May for sentencing, and the defence said the man had no previous convictions and was otherwise of good character.
