A 50-year-old man was acquitted by reason of insanity of harassing six people at Dublin Circuit Court, reported on 1 July 2015. The jury returned the verdict on all counts after about 10 minutes of deliberation.

The court heard that no inpatient place was available at the Central Mental Hospital, which had one fifth of the capacity required. The man was to continue outpatient treatment for an underlying delusional disorder, with no immediate likelihood of him harming himself or others, according to evidence from a consultant forensic psychiatrist.
