A 35-year-old Dublin man was jailed for 16 months at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for assault causing harm and breaches of a protection order. Judge Martin Nolan said he had demonstrated disregard for the law and deserved custody.

He pleaded guilty to the charges. The offences occurred on dates between October 2020 and November 2020, and the proceedings were reported on 21 February 2024.

The report said a protection order was live when he assaulted his former partner. He also breached High Court bail requiring him to stay away from her home and have no contact with her or their son. In mitigation, his barrister said he was remorseful, had attended a violence-prevention course and became angry when drunk; the garda accepted he had been self-destructive.
