22-year-old given last chance after aggravated burglary
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
The unnamed 22-year-old had his Court of Appeal case adjourned for one month on 25 January 2018 after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary, robbery and false imprisonment. The offences occurred at Botanic Avenue, Dublin 9, on 27 April 2011. He had received a six-year detention sentence in 2012, with the final 12 months suspended after an appeal. The court heard his probation engagement was unsatisfactory, although he had re-engaged and found accommodation. A judge said one missed probation appointment would leave him with no further opportunity.
The case concerned an attack in which a student was taken to an ATM and threatened that his girlfriend would be raped if money was not withdrawn. The Court of Appeal had previously suspended the final year because of his age and the need to prioritise rehabilitation.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
