At the Central Criminal Court on 23 October 2023, Yousef Palani, aged 23, from Markievicz Heights in Sligo, was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment for the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee. Justice Mary Ellen Ring imposed a concurrent 20-year sentence for causing serious harm to Anthony Burke through a knife attack to the eye. Evidence indicated the offences were motivated by hostility towards homosexual men. Justice Ring emphasised that the three men should be remembered for their lives and contributions to their communities rather than the circumstances of their deaths. The sentences are to date from 13 April 2022 when Palani entered custody.
