A 59-year-old man from Sligo has been sentenced to nine years imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court following his conviction on charges arising from an incident at his home in April 2015. Christopher Feeney was found guilty of rape, oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault following a trial in September 2021. He was acquitted of a false imprisonment charge on which the jury could not reach agreement. The victim, then aged 54, had met Feeney through a dating application and travelled to Sligo town to meet him. The attack occurred at his Millbrook address in the early hours of the morning. Gardaí attended the scene after the woman contacted them and was instructed to display a signal from her balcony. Feeney fled Ireland whilst the Director of Public Prosecutions considered the case and was arrested in the UK in 2019. Mr Justice David Keane imposed concurrent sentences and noted Feeney demonstrated no remorse. A three-year post-release supervision order and sex offender registration were also imposed.
