A man accused of murdering his wife in Sligo told gardai that he lay down with her for approximately ten minutes after killing her, the Central Criminal Court has heard. Rafal Karaczyn, aged 34, of Crozon Park, Sligo, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife Natalia, aged 30, at their family home between April 29th and May 1st, 2018. The trial, presided over by Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and a jury, commenced on this date and is expected to last three weeks. The prosecution outlined that Mr Karaczyn initially denied responsibility but later admitted to gardai that he strangled his wife. Gardai discovered her body in a remote location on May 1st after Mr Karaczyn directed them to it. The court will hear evidence from the deputy State pathologist confirming asphyxia as the cause of death, alongside CCTV footage and Garda interviews. The trial continues tomorrow.
