A 31-year-old man from Sligo town is on trial at the Central Criminal Court charged with murdering a local musician in August 2015. The accused has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. During the fifth day of proceedings, the court heard extracts from garda interviews in which he told officers he and his sister were under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred at the victim's home on Holborn Street. He stated he believed the deceased had acted inappropriately towards his sister, and acknowledged that he had stabbed the man, whilst also implicating his sister in the attack. The victim sustained two stab wounds to the neck and was discovered by friends on the morning of the August bank holiday. The jury viewed video footage of the fourth interview, with proceedings adjourned to resume the following Tuesday.
