A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years’ detention for manslaughter at the Central Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 16 November 2020.
The boy raised excessive self-defence and was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.
Azzam Raguragui was stabbed five times in Finsbury Park, Dundrum, following a melee between two groups of youths over a stolen bicycle.
Mr Justice Paul McDermott said the boy brought a knife, used wholly excessive force and attempted to dispose of evidence afterwards. The judge also said he co-operated with the investigation, helped retrieve the knife and admitted the stabbing.
