The 15-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of robbery in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The robbery happened at a church in south Dublin on 6 April 2017.

The proceedings were reported on 15 July 2017.

The report said the teenager and five other boys surrounded a 17-year-old in a churchyard, after which he was punched and struck over the head with a wooden post. The victim escaped, and the stolen bicycle was valued at €350.

The report said the boy initially denied being present but later made admissions and apologised. His defence barrister, Pieter Le Vert BL, described his home situation as challenging, referred to his mild learning disability and early substance use, and said the absence of a structured regime had contributed to the re-offending.

He was already serving an eight-month Oberstown detention sentence for assault and threat-to-kill charges, and was due for release in November. The report also said he faced a further charge of assaulting a care worker, but gave no outcome for that charge.
