The Labour Court upheld Olubunmi Daramola’s appeal against Blue Space Business Management Ltd, finding her dismissal unfair and awarding compensation equal to four weeks’ wages. The decision was signed on 20 June 2025. The Court set aside the earlier Adjudication Officer decision, which had found her complaint not well founded after she did not attend that hearing.
Daramola had worked as an Accounts Assistant. The company said it decided to outsource its finance activities and make her role redundant. It initially understood she was on a fixed-term contract, but accepted she was a permanent employee when she raised her employment status. Daramola said she understood she had a permanent position and considered her dismissal unfair.
The Court found the company had made its redundancy decision without discussing it with Daramola or telling her in advance that her role was at risk. It said fair procedure required advance notice, consideration of alternatives and a fair selection process. As there had been no prior engagement, it found the dismissal unfair. The Court awarded four weeks’ wages as compensation; the decision does not state a euro amount. Daramola did not provide evidence quantifying her loss or mitigation. A separate Equality complaint was withdrawn at the hearing.
