Labour Court upholds €1,000 award to Markus Pedersen

The Labour Court upheld a €1,000 award to Markus Pedersen after his employer, Swordlestown Little Ltd, appealed a finding that it failed to give him a written employment contract. The determination was dated 21 April 2021. The company accepted that Pedersen had not received a contract, but argued he suffered no detriment and pointed to accommodation and other support. Pedersen said he also lacked training and employment information, worked long hours and received no extra pay for additional work. The Court said many of his claims had not been refuted and found compensation appropriate because a contract could have offered protections concerning the matters behind his complaint. The Court upheld the adjudication officer’s decision and the €1,000 compensation.
