Labour Court dismisses late appeal, leaving €100 award in place

The Labour Court dismissed Mr Adrian Okoniewski’s appeal as out of time, leaving the original €100 award in place. The determination was signed on 12 July 2021; the merits were not decided. Okoniewski’s complaint against Securitas Security Services Ireland Ltd concerned the Terms of Employment (Information) Act. He appealed the WRC decision, but the Labour Court received his appeal after the statutory deadline. He said he had forgotten to appeal while dealing with family responsibilities and depression. The Court found those circumstances did not prevent him from appealing in time and ruled it had no jurisdiction to hear the late appeal.
