The Labour Court upheld a €350 compensation award to Martins Lacplesis against Yupon Ltd and rejected his appeal, in a determination dated 28 July 2016. Lacplesis, a sous chef, challenged the amount awarded over breaches of the Terms of Employment (Information) Act. The Court found that his written terms omitted information about breaks, pension arrangements, working hours, pay-reference periods and average hourly pay. It found no breach over annual-leave information or the staff handbook, which he had reviewed and could access. Describing the breaches as technical and insubstantial, the Court found no basis to change the compensation. Yupon Ltd was directed to pay the €350 within six weeks.
