The Labour Court varied a €500 compensation award to Joseph Daney, ordering Mas/HR Limited to pay €250. The determination was signed on 4 February 2016. Daney had complained that Mas/HR Limited failed to provide him with a written statement of his terms of employment. At the appeal hearing, both confirmed he had received a statement. The company said it had not kept a signed copy and asked the Court to find it had met its obligations. Daney said he should have had an opportunity to discuss the statement’s contents. The Labour Court found the company had breached the requirement to retain a copy, so it could not establish that the statement contained all the required details. It found Mas/HR Limited had contravened Section 3 of the Terms of Employment (Information) Acts 1994 to 2012 and reduced the compensation to €250, payable within six weeks of the determination.
