The Labour Court found that G4S Secure Solutions (Irl) Ltd put security officer Krzysztof Stanek on lay-off after cancelling his upcoming rosters. The preliminary determination, signed on 8 March 2018, concerned whether G4S had given proper notice of lay-off. Stanek said a phone call on 3 November 2016 cancelling his rosters and saying G4S would seek replacement hours amounted to notice. The company disputed that interpretation, citing later letters and a communication failure. The Court found the call gave proper notice because it communicated both the cancellation and an expectation that the stoppage would not be permanent. The Court decided only this preliminary issue. It did not determine the remaining issues in Stanek’s redundancy appeal or award a redundancy payment.
