The Labour Court set aside a decision in Cinders Limited’s appeal against Celina Byrne’s redundancy payment claim, finding she unreasonably refused a job at the company’s Wicklow Street shop. The determination was signed on 8 August 2018. Byrne had worked as a sales assistant for Cinders for about 20 years. The company offered her jobs at Blanchardstown, St Stephen’s Green and Wicklow Street after deciding to close its Merrion Centre shop. The Court found her refusals of the first two jobs were reasonable because moving from a stand-alone shop to a concession would substantially change her working environment. It found the Wicklow Street role had no significant difference in working conditions and would not disadvantage her commute.
