In 1997, the Labour Court rejected the Building & Allied Trades Union’s claim that O’Malley Construction Company Limited owed two bricklayers holiday money and meal, tool and travel allowances under the Construction Industry Registered Employment Agreement. The order was signed on 8 January 1997. The company said the workers’ agreed rates included all allowances. The Court found the rates covered the allowances under the agreement, although the company should have itemised them clearly on payslips. It found the complaint was not well founded and rejected the union’s claim.
