The Labour Court rejected Alan O’Connor’s claim for six weeks’ notice pay against Accent Solutions after redundancy. In a determination dated 15 March 2022, it found that formal redundancy notice had been issued on 17 February 2020 and was never withdrawn. O’Connor argued that discussions about extending his employment led him to believe the notice had been withdrawn. He said he was entitled to €3,346.35 in notice pay after being told on 29 March his job would end two days later. Accent Solutions said no extension had been agreed and the February notice remained in force. O’Connor accepted that the formal notice had not been withdrawn. The Court found that no further notice payment was properly payable from 29 March, held the complaint not well founded and upheld the Adjudication Officer’s decision. His employment ended by reason of redundancy on 31 March 2020.
