The Labour Court upheld the dismissal of Grzegorz Walasek’s wages complaint against Radisson Blu Hotel, finding it was not well founded. The determination was dated 14 July 2021. Walasek appealed the Adjudication Officer’s decision on his complaint under the Payment of Wages Act.
Walasek said he was contracted to earn €26,000 a year, was paid late and received less than he believed he was owed. He also sought recognition of losses including a €750 deposit and €22,253 in Pandemic Unemployment Payment. The hotel said it had sought the bank and tax details needed to pay him, paid him for the hours he worked and applied the required tax deductions.
The Court accepted that there were legitimate reasons for the delay while the hotel sought the information needed to make payment. It found Walasek was entitled to the agreed amount for the time he worked, had received what was properly payable under the Act, and that the deductions complied with the law. The Court made no award for the claimed losses.
