The Labour Court upheld a €32,300 unpaid wages award to Declan Ryan after dismissing Crosswood Developments Limited’s appeal. The determination was dated 29 January 2020.

Ryan said he had agreed orally to become the company’s chief executive and had worked for it. Crosswood argued he was not an employee because he had not signed an employment contract.

The Court found an employment agreement did not need to be written and that Ryan had performed work for the company from 11 December 2018. It upheld the Adjudication Officer’s decision that Crosswood pay him €32,300 for 11 weeks’ unpaid wages.
