The Labour Court awarded Anthony Quinn €14,000 compensation after finding his part-time work complaint well founded on Dublin Institute of Technology’s appeal. The Court varied the Rights Commissioner’s decision in a determination dated 2 October 2012.

Quinn worked as an hourly paid assistant lecturer, while Pauric Reilly was a full-time lecturer. The Court accepted that their work was of a similar nature and equal or greater value, and that Quinn’s employment conditions were less favourable. The Institute argued that Reilly’s role had broader responsibilities. The Court relied on evidence of the work the lecturers actually performed, finding that the Institute’s expert had based his analysis on contracts and management documents that did not establish that work.
