The Labour Court upheld an €8,348 minimum-wage award to farm labourer Rimantas Plytninkas after rejecting employer Thomas Dixon’s appeal. Its determination was dated 11 October 2011. Plytninkas’s representative said he worked 12-hour days, six days a week, sometimes on Sundays, while his pay rose from €350 to €450 a week. His side claimed he was owed €23,573 in arrears. Dixon said Plytninkas usually worked four hours a day, with occasional extra duties, and was paid above the minimum wage. The Court found Plytninkas worked an average of 53.5 hours a week. Dixon had not kept proper records of hours or pay, and the Court found Plytninkas had not received the amount due under the National Minimum Wage Act. It ordered Dixon to pay €8,348 in arrears.
