In 2001, the Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner's minimum wage determination on an appeal brought by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for a youth hostel warden employed by An Oige Y.H.A. The Court set her entitlement at £158.79 a week from 1 April 2000 to 30 June 2001, and £170.79 a week from 1 July 2001. The determination was signed on 4 September 2001. The union said the warden worked 80 to 90 hours a week and should receive the minimum wage for 39 hours plus overtime. An Oige said she determined her own hours and duties. The Court found that no board was provided, so no deduction could be made for it; only £17.21 a week for lodging could be deducted.
