The Labour Court recommended that University College Cork and five practice education co-ordinators carry out a comparative analysis of their roles and lecturer job descriptions, as agreed at conciliation. The recommendation was dated 14 August 2024. The co-ordinators, represented by IFUT, sought pay on the lecturer above-the-bar scale, arguing that staff doing similar work had different pay and annual leave terms. UCC said they were not lecturers and that public-sector pay arrangements prevented it conceding the claim. The Court did not accept the union’s claim that the existing scale resulted from an error in 2007. It noted that more universities used rates like UCC’s than the lecturer scale sought, and recommended that the parties first complete the role comparison. It did not recommend a particular pay scale.
