The Labour Court recommended that Waterways Ireland pay each of 14 Lock Keepers €1,000 to settle their dispute over Good Friday premium pay. The recommendation was dated 22 September 2022. The lock keepers, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, sought continued alignment with craft workers’ arrangements. The Court said those arrangements were already aligned and did not recommend conceding the claim, but recommended the ex-gratia payments in recognition of the workers’ long service and commitment to public needs on Good Fridays.
