The Labour Court recommended that MTL Peel Ports and 40 Workers, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU), return to the Workplace Relations Commission for further discussions on a shift-premium dispute. The recommendation was signed on 9 June 2022. SIPTU sought to raise the premium for general operative members from 18.5% to 33%. Management argued that workers' basic pay was already considerably higher than comparable terminal workers in Dublin Port. The Court said it could not establish whether significant assertions by either side had a factual basis and recommended further discussions to explore the disputed facts. If unresolved, the matter could return to the Court with supporting evidence.
