Labour Court rejects union’s claim to a third promotion-panel appointment

The Labour Court did not recommend conceding the union’s claim for a third appointment from a promotion panel at Kilkenny County Council. The worker, represented by Forsa, said she had been told the panel would last 12 months and that, as the fourth-ranked candidate, she would have been appointed to a Grade V post if it had remained in place. The Council said the competition covered two specific vacancies and the panel expired after both posts were filled. The Court said clearer advertising and communication might have helped avoid the dispute, but the competition was conducted to fill two sanctioned posts. The recommendation was signed on 18 October 2021.
