The Labour Court recommended pay increases of 1.5% for 2021 and 1.75% for 2022 for 120 General Operatives at Smurfit Kappa. The recommendation was signed on 7 October 2021. The workers were represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The union sought recognition for workers’ efforts during the pandemic and opposed trading existing benefits for a pay increase. Smurfit Kappa had proposed a three-year agreement. The Court recommended an agreement that included continued engagement on administrative and operational issues, flexibility and support for change, and no cost-increasing claims during its term.
