The Labour Court did not recommend compensation for a worker’s complaint about a competition for a Clinical Nurse Manager 3 post at Cavan General Hospital. Its decision was signed on 7 October 2021. The worker, represented by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, had appealed an adjudication officer’s recommendation. The worker sought more time to prepare for interview after succeeding in a review of the initial sift decision, and asked for a different interview board. The Health Service Executive said the competition followed the applicable code. The Court found no basis to conclude that it was unfair, and recommended that the employer improve recruitment planning, guidance on review and grievance procedures, communications about results, and staff supports.
