The Labour Court recommended a €5,000 payment for each cabin crew member leaving Aer Lingus after the airline closed its Shannon base. The recommendation was dated 23 July 2021.
Aer Lingus said staff could take voluntary redundancy or transfer to Dublin or Cork where vacancies existed. Its severance offer was five weeks’ pay per year of service, capped at 104 weeks and €180,000. Fórsa sought enhanced redundancy terms and support with relocation and retraining for the 83 Workers.
Aer Lingus did not attend the hearing. The Court said it could not fully understand the dispute or assess the financial and operational impact of changing the offer. It declined to recommend substantial changes to the terms on offer, but recommended €5,000 for each staff member leaving to help them retrain or adapt their skills.
