The Labour Court recommended continuing the existing country money arrangements for approximately 70 workers represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union in a dispute with Waterways Ireland. The recommendation was signed on 28 August 2020. The union said workers’ take-home pay had fallen by €40 to €90 a week since the allowance was taxed from 1 January 2019 and sought to maintain the arrangement. Waterways Ireland said it changed its practice after tax advice and instructions from DPER. The Court also recommended that the parties engage in the normal manner over any actual loss arising.
