The Labour Court recommended that Connect’s claim over Pfizer Little Island’s voluntary redundancy process fail. The recommendation was signed on 26 August 2020. Connect said three craft workers had been led to expect redundancy packages, then were left for 18 months without being told the decision had changed. The company said expressions of interest were not acceptance and that increased production needs meant craft redundancies were not justified. The Court found the workers could not have formed a legitimate expectation of receiving voluntary redundancy, and the claim failed.
