The Labour Court recommended against a union claim for compensation over changes to parking arrangements at the Intel site, in a decision signed on 31 July 2020. The Construction Industry Committee Of The Ictu brought the claim on behalf of workers employed by Ardmac, BAM, Mercury Engineering, Jones's Engineering, HA O'Neill, Hegarty, Suir Engineering and Beckett Plastering. The union said the 2019 changes had extended workers’ day by up to two hours and sought compensation or further engagement. The employers said affected workers had been offered a return to on-site parking and that most had returned by early 2020; some chose other car parks. They also said workers received travel time or allowance payments. The Court noted that the 226 workers affected had been offered free on-site parking by March 2020, with free parking elsewhere and transport provided in the interim. It also noted the workers received travel allowances or country money. The Court found no basis to concede the claim or recommend further engagement.
