The Labour Court recommended that Bus Eireann give 150 Maintenance Staff represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Connect Union, Unite the Union and NBRU the first two phases of its September 2019 pay proposal, including retrospective payment. The recommendation was dated 29 July 2020.
SIPTU, Connect Union and Unite the Union sought an 11.25% increase over three years without further efficiency or productivity concessions. NBRU sought implementation of the company’s September 2019 proposal. Bus Eireann offered an immediate 2.75% increase, saying it could not afford further increases or back payment.
The Court recommended revisiting the proposal’s third phase in line with other grades. It said granting the first unions’ claim would be unwise given Bus Eireann’s precarious finances, while noting that other grades had received the first two phases.
