The Labour Court recommended that redundancy terms for 64 Workers at Caritas Convalescent Centre be calculated using the formula applied to public service workers. It also recommended fair and reasonable termination payments for staff with less than two years’ service and payment of a promised July 2020 wage top-up. The recommendation was dated 30 July 2020. The dispute followed the centre’s move into liquidation. The unions said workers had been told on 30 June 2020 they would receive a July top-up, but no payment was made. The employer had indicated that redundancy would be on statutory terms, without ex-gratia payments. The employer did not attend the hearing. The Court recommended that the parties engage with relevant stakeholders, including the Sisters of Charity and the HSE, to find a way to implement the terms.
