The Labour Court recommended that Premier Periclase Ltd conclude its process to fill a new Maintenance Planner and Materials Management Specialist role at its Drogheda facility as soon as possible. The recommendation was signed on 13 March 2020. The 113 Operatives, represented by Connect Trade Union, argued the post was a promotion and qualified maintenance fitters should have been considered before external applicants. The company said the role was new and focused on preventive maintenance and stock management. The Court found the role had a different focus from existing maintenance jobs and that the company had followed its agreement, which allowed it to choose how vacancies were filled while giving qualified fitters the chance to compete.
