The Labour Court recommended on 6 January 2020 that South Dublin County Council not concede Four Acting Drivers’ claims for permanent appointments. The drivers sought to be made permanent in their acting positions. The union argued the 2017 agreement entitled the drivers to appointments and an opportunity to obtain a Class C licence within a year. The Council said they had not taken the offered training or applied for the confined competition. The Court found the agreed process required a competition and that the drivers became ineligible for permanent appointment on that occasion when they did not apply.
